Where’d I Put It?

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Everything you log in WIPI, including item names, places, photos and saved locations, stays on your device. We never receive it.

This policy describes how Where’d I Put It? (WIPI) handles your information. The app stores your entries locally on your device. The only data that leaves your device is anonymous usage and crash information (described below) and, if you have it enabled, your phone’s own Google backup.

Data You Enter

When you log an item, you enter a name and a place. You may also attach a photo, assign the item to a group, and save its GPS location. All of this is stored in a local database on your device. None of it is sent to us or to any third party.

Location

WIPI can save your device’s location with an entry so you can find the item again later. Location is only used while the app is open, and only when you save a location or use the finder. WIPI never tracks your location in the background.

Saved coordinates are stored only on your device. They are never sent to us, included in analytics or crash reports, or shared with anyone. If you tap “Open in Maps,” only the coordinates (not the item’s name) are passed to the maps app you choose, which then handles them under its own privacy policy.

If “Fast location” is turned on in Settings, Android may use nearby Wi-Fi and cell networks to find your position faster. This is handled by your device’s location service (for example, Google Location Services), not by WIPI. You can turn it off to use GPS only.

Photos

If you attach a photo to an item, it is stored locally on your device. WIPI accesses your camera or photo library only when you choose to take or attach a photo. Photos are never uploaded or transmitted by WIPI.

App Lock

If you turn on App Lock, your PIN is stored only on your device. Fingerprint and face unlock are handled entirely by Android’s built-in biometric system. WIPI never receives, stores, or has access to your biometric data.

Backups

If Android backup is turned on for your device, your WIPI data (including saved locations) may be included in your device’s Google backup so it can be restored on a new phone. These backups are stored in your Google account, are end-to-end encrypted when your device has a screen lock, and are not accessible to us. You can turn backup off in your device’s settings.

Analytics and Crash Reports

WIPI uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes. These services may collect information such as app interactions, device model, OS version, app version, and crash details, along with app-instance identifiers.

This information does not include your item names, places, photos, or saved locations. See Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

In-App Purchases

WIPI offers an optional one-time Premium upgrade purchased through Google Play. Payment is processed entirely by Google. WIPI does not handle or store any payment or billing information. Google’s privacy policy applies to that transaction.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete any entry in the app. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device. Data in your device’s Google backup is managed through your Google account.

Children

WIPI is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
